Gambel's Quail (Callipepla gambelii)

Place: Phoenix, AZ
Date: April 20, 9:56 am
Equipment: Nikon D7200, AF-S Nikkor 200-500mm f/5.6E ED VR @ 500mm, G1325, RRS BH-55
Exposure: ISO 800, Aperture priority spot metered, 1/640th @ f/5.6
Raw, PS CC 2017 on Mac, cropped to 43% of full frame

Another quail shot from our backyard., through the glass of the patio door. I like the relationship between mother and chick, and the way the natural light puts the emphasis on the chick.

These is really cool, Richard. You have captured a great moment with the hen and chick. As you mention, that small shaft of light on the chick is really special. I am really impressed how much detail is in the hen in such low light.

First, a very cool bird. When I think of how hard I've worked for this species...

Second, very nice use of shadow and light to emphasize the chick. The interaction is good, but the bright chick just draws the eye.

Very good shot.

This one definitely needs to be viewed large, Richard, the smaller versions just don't do it justice.  I love the attitude of the adult quail and you have superb detail in both, despite the radically different lighting.  Well done.

Definitely needs to be seen large to appreciate.  Good detail all around, I like the mother's pose and the "spotlight" on the chick.
