Fly After The Rain

I went out to check the flowers after a shower of rain a few days ago, and decided to take my camera with me.  This fly was on a lily, and after I took the shot and brought it up on the computer screen did I discover that he had raindrops on hm.  The one on his eye makes me think he is crying.  Canon Mark II, Canon 100mm L Marco Lens, and KX-800 twin flash, settings at f19, 1/60, ISO 250, handheld.  Comments and critiques are welcome.

Shirley, the colors in the lily leaf as well as the fly's eye, back, and wings are especially attractive.  The water drops have me chuckling out loud. I wish the wing tip weren't touching the left edge.  If you're using PS, you may be able to add say 200 pixels using content aware fill (and some blending) to move it away from the edge.  This view looks like your working at close to minimum focal distance.  I've used that lens with extension tubes to get to nearly 2:1 on my 5D3.

Thank you, Mark.  I appreciate that.  I actually have some space, as I cropped it like that, so my goof.  I think the image is cropped about 50%.  I have been thinking about trying an extension tube with that lens and flash.  I also have the Canon lens 1X-5X, totally manual focus, so I need to try it too.  I do appreciate the feedback. That is how we learn.

Shirley, nice handling of the yellow color and beautiful metallic colors in the fly. I too wish more room on the left and a small crop from the right. I might add a bit more sharpening at the fly. But overall I like the image.

Okay, I decided I would go back and make some of the changes that you all have so kindly suggested (allow more room to the left, and remove some from the right, and to sharpen the fly some).  Let me know what you think.

Shirley your macros have been really great, this one included. Copper green color, detail, those bright eyes and the DOF is really good. The water droplets are a real added bonus. Repost is great.
