Thrash

When the Sea Lions catch a salmon they frequently thrash it from side to side so fast that it tears them apart.  It kills the salmon immediately and makes them easier to eat.  It's all over in part of a second so you need a fast shutter speed to stop the action.  In this case I think the frozen splash is the more interesting part of the image.  Best if viewed large!
Sony a6500, FE 70-200 f2.8 GM w/2X TC @ 147mm (I was very close to the action), ISO-250, f/7.1, 1/4000 Hand held.

Great action Gary. That splash is great! I actually got to see this behavior in a sea lion when we visited Valdez back in 2007. The pinks were running and the sea lion was having a great time with them.

I agree that the "flying splash" makes for a great scene, Gary.  I also like the colored, textured reflections in the water.  Quite the action shot.
