Uh Oh! Heron and Eagle

Here's one from our annual Bald Eagle workshop at Hood Canal in Washington state.  Eagle numbers were down this year but still enough for some nice action and flight photography.  This Great Blue Heron is getting out of the way as an adult Bald Eagle comes in to grab the fish the heron had caught.

Excellent detail in the birds and there is definitely something intimidating in the eagle's pose. I think of GBHs as large birds, but I can see why the eagle won the battle.

Nice catch, particularly the heron, Nate.  The detail in the wing is great, and I love the open beak and obvious expression of displeasure.

Great capture, Nate.  I too love the expression on the GBH, with it's mouth open.  Winner takes all, and I guess that would be the Bald Eagle!  Unless we count your great catch too!  Perfect timing.

Great action shot Nate. The look on the heron is perfect.

Killer action shot, Nate!  Nice job with the exposure and the details are excellent.  The large version is required viewing here!

Hello Nate,... Great to see this capture with SoMuch going on. Exposure good to capture the white correctly, the shadows and darks are really thick , lacking much detail, but looks like mid day capture and overhead light.

Thanks fro sharing

Nice color, detail and action in this shot.  I think you were able to capture the essence of what we all saw there on Hood Canal.  It was my first time experiencing this behavior.  For whatever reason the numbers were down, I hope they return to normal next year.  I can certainly see the potential for some good behavioral shots.
