Acadia Light

Acadia NP, ME

Mike had found this notch in the rugged granite of the Acadia coast on the prior morning and thought we could incorporate it in our shot. If we make it back this fall we may try to shoot this again as the sun should be more to the right and we may be able to use the notch as a leading line.

As always thanks for taking a look and leaving a comment or suggestion.

I like this a lot, Ed.  The foreground holds a lot of interest - I like the color, lines and textures.  I like the idea of trying to line up the rising sun and it's reflection with the notch.  I would like to explore Acadia sometime in the future.

The rugged rocks contrast well with the cloudy sky, Ed.  The rising sun with the glow along the horizon and the reflections make this a lovely scene.  I think there's a nice balance between the crevice and where the sun is.  Yes, getting those aligned should be interesting.

What a wonderful scene, Ed. Looks like you and Mike found an excellent place to experiment with in various seasons too. I enjoy taking advantage of some same places and "milking" them for all they're worth under numerous and varying conditions too. Good luck on the returning next adventure here.......laugh

Nice work Ed! Very nice warm colors and lots of interest in all the foreground rock. The reflected glow across the water is beautiful. Good luck shooting it again the fall if you make it back there.

This comp works quite nicely, Ed.  Good job balancing the light here.

There's a LOT of blank space in your post.  Did you insert a bunch of returns?

Thanks for your thoughts everyone; always appreciated.
Brain: If you ever have the chance to get to Acadia shoot me an email. I can tell you of some locations to check out.
Tony: I am not sure what happened; I noticed it too.

The colors make this one work for me, Ed.  The brown, brick, red, purple palette is stunning.  I like the idea of a strategic alignment with the notch and sun.  If that's possible (depending on time of year) that would be the ticket.

Really beautiful, Ed.  No nits from me.  Wonderful palette and looks like a great to visit often.

Beautiful capture, Ed. I like how the color and shapes of the clouds mirror the rocks. You have a good idea about lining the rising sun with the notch in the rocks. That will be sweet if you get comparable light.

Sweet shot, Ed. I didn't think to include the sun in any of my shots. Like how the clouds sort of mimic the FG rocks. Nice layered comp with the horizontal rocks, ocean, sunlit band along the horizon and finally the dramatic clouds. FYI, I see two small dust specs? in the sky.devil

Lovely warm light and a nice composition. I would like to see a smoother transition between the reds just above the sun. Beyond that minor nit, I like this a lot, Ed.

Ed,

What works for me is the visual balance here. Interesting because a beautiful sunset sky like this could really dominate a scene.  Yet you've only give the sky about 25% of the frame.  Which leaves the rest to the calm sea and the interesting rocky shore. I guess what I'm trying to say is that despite the allocation of space to the different elements, I think this is still visually very nicely balanced. I hope that makes sense.

Just a thought.  due to the size of my monitor, this particular image I'm forced to do a vertical scroll (even on a horizontal image.) This gave me the thought that I think a slight crop up from the bottom to create a more narrow format could be an effective presentation for this scene.
