Ghosts at the beach

I try to get down to the Oregon coast as often as I can. This day had a beautiful mist looming over everything and I thought it would be a good chance to experiment with my 10 stop ND as it was quite bright. I think i may have over darkened the water on the right hand side. I also feel I got lucky with how still the people and dog on the left stood.

Image was made on a canon 5dsr, 70-200 f2.8 lens at 70mm. F11 and 11 seconds iso 100.

Critique and comments welcome! Thanks for looking.

Very nicely done; I like this a lot.  Very nice progression from "reality" to "unreality" as you travel through the frame.  Positioning of the figure of the right really add something -- a little unsettling, but that's a good thing.

An intriguingly mysterious image, Ryan.  The juxtaposition of ghostly figure on the right and nicely sharp group on the left works very well.  If this were a "straight landscape" image, the darkness of the water on the right would be noticeable, but as presented I think it fits well and it matches nicely the darkness of the figure on the right.  One thing you might test is some subtle edge burning along the left side.

Thanks Ana, thanks Mark.

Mark, I will give that a shot. Now that you mention it isee were it would help tone it down a bit.

Ryan, what a cool image!   I like that the high water mark separates the real from the imagined and the placement of the figure on the right which draws us in to try and figure out the mystery behind the ghostly beachgoers.  I need to dust off my Big Stopper and experiment with my own "otherworldly" shots.  Thanks for the inspiration.

Very cool concept.  It's nice to see someone thinking outside of the box.  Look forward to seeing more

Ryan: what a wonderful blend of reality and unreality. The ghostly figure at the right really puts the image in a special category. Congrats! Richard
