Cereus buds

I'm continuing to explore the images from the recent cereus bloom in my backyard. This is an image was taken just as the buds started to open.  It's an amazingly fast process and completely captivating.

I don't have a macro lens or one with particularly good bokeh, so I did what I could with telephoto and the Orton effect.

Nikon D7200, 18-300 zoom @ 105mm (157mm 35mm-equiv), f/10, 1/60 sec.

I love the way the petals begin to unwind. The light tones and the color saturation are excellent as one expects from you.

I like this a lot.  Nice use of the Orton effect.

I mostly like the use of shadows to add dimension. Sometimes just out of focus is not very satisfying. I understand, at least for some Cereus blooms, that they bloom overnight, once a year and last a very short time. The colors are quiet and subtle. I like that as well. I am ambivalent about the two blue streaks in the BG, but they are at least not obnoxiously distracting.

I think you did a fine job separating the subject flower from the background.

Tony,

Wonderful work with this all around.  Great job with the depth of field and softer background allowing the solitary bud.  I really like the soft, subdued colors as well.  No nits or suggestions. Well done!

I know there's some sandstone in here somewhere, where is it?  enlightened
