Fernandina Heat

This image is an oldie taken on April 12th, 2009, one day after the beginning of a volcanic eruption on the island of Fernandina, in the Galapagos Archipelago.  Diverting from our planned itinerary, the captain of our small ship positioned us to where we could see the lava flow as it emptied into the ocean.  It was an unexpected thrill to see that impressive display of fire and smoke.

Wow, Paula!  That's pretty impressive, and what a privilege to be at the right place to capture this.  Galapagos is amazing indeed devil

Quite an amazing image, Paula, with the plume of fire/smoke rising from the midst of all of the other fires.  The great details in the larger view have me thinking that the big plume is smoke rising from the lava hitting the ocean.

I keep thinking the Wizard of OZ should appear from behind the curtain!  Beautifully captured and great to view.
