Slender Mongoose

My first ever sighting of a Slender Mongoose standing still, unlike most mongeese this species does not live in groups and is normally very shy. This one stayed roughly still for around 5 minutes forming a different "roadblock".
Taken in the Robbins area of Hwange National Park a very wild and relatively under-developed area  "real Africa".

Really evil looking guy. Those orange eyes are scary.

Ken: wonderful light and pose and I really like the separation from the background. Richard

What an interesting eye!   Congrats on the somewhat rare encounter.  My one wish would have been for a chance to see from a more eye level perspective.  Great light.

Nice capture here, Ken.  I've always found it tough to get them standing.  Can't believe it posed that long.  You nailed it, and in nice light to boot!

First mongoose I've seen photographed in native terrain; my shots are all from introduced animals in Hawai'i. Great shot in sweet light, and the eye is outstanding. I find myself wishing for a lower angle, but I understand that's not always possible.
