Mother & Daughter

These Eastern Kingbirds showed up in our yard a couple of days ago, and seem to be hanging around, much to the frustration of our Mockingbirds, because they think they own our yard!  The mother kept gathering food and feeding the young one.  Hoping to capture that action too, but so far, I have missed it.  Shot through the window with Canon 5D Mark III, Canon 300 mm L f2.8 lens with 2X, (600 mm total) on tripod.  Settings f6.3, 1/500, ISO 400.  Cropped to 67% into vertical format.  Comments and critiques are welcome.  Thanks.

The Kingbirds take no prisoners! That's the very reason for their latin name—Tyrannus tyrannus. Really excellent diagonal placing, habitat and BG!cool

You have a lovely setting for bird photography.  Good detail and nice poses on this pair.

Excellent image quality, Shirley.  I'm surprised you got enough dof to keep both of them in focus at f/6.3, but it really worked nicely.  If the surroundings aren't too ugly, you might widen it out to a 4x5 to see what you think-the birds feel a bit crowded on the sides to my eye.

A very nice composition, very pleasing.  Reminds me  of Audubon's paintings a bit.  You might try to darken those light spots on the leaf right behind the front bird, but not a big thing.  Thanks for sharing.

I thought the comment of John Tobias was right on because I had exactly the same feeling.  You could easily go into the artistic panel of Photoshop and turn this into an Audubon painting.

This is a lovely look at these Kingbirds in a beautiful setting!  I love the alert expression of the upper bird!
