With the color combination of eyes and skin, these frogs always make great photo subjects, and this head on view is no exception, Ed. The pop of the frog against the dark background looks great and you've got enough detail in the diagonal stem to let it add well to the comp.

Ed, that's beautiful little guy with a great pose. The vibrant colors are almost startling against the dark BG. Which begs the question: the surroundings are so dark that it doesn't seem natural, although that may be the case I guess with flash. IMO the perch and BG could stand to be brighter. Just my 2 cents.

Thanks for the comments. I appreciate them. Bill, FWIW, we were walking a trail in total darkness using headlights to spot the frogs. The background was more than 3 feet away. Setting the flash and exposure to not blow out the highlights on the frog and still be close enough to fill the frame caused the bg to go black. I will post another tomorrow from a different angle, but the BG is still black. BTW the frog was not posed it is in its natural habitat on its "own" stem. I understand they don't move around a lot from day to day.

Nice image Ed. Red Eyed tree frogs are really cool subjects. I disagree with Bill's comment about the dark background. It should be dark, these are nocturnal frogs so this feel completely natural.

Love the head on view here Ed. Those eyes just pop, especially against that dark BG. Nice work with controlling the amount of flash on this one.

Wonderful image of this frog looking at you from the darkness of the nighttime jungle! I love the way it's looking right at the camera. The vibrant colors are beautiful.

Thanks for your response to my comment, Ed. I should try this out with my local population. By daylight they rarely pose this well. BTW, that's some impressive flash control.

He is just too cute, Ed! Love those red eyes and green skin. Wow, walking at night in a jungle, I would have been scared I would step on a snake or something. Very nice shot of this little guy.

Thanks again for the comments. Bill, no problem. I was just explaining. BTW the flash was set at flash EV -3 with camera EV about -2 Shirley, we were with a guide and were "ordered" to stay on the trail. We did manage to see a large Fer De Lance coiled up under a tree about 12 feet away. It was kind of sleepy - Good Thing!! Our group was about 7 walkers plus the guide. Thanks again to all for commenting.

There is a lot to like about this one all around, Ed. Amazing outdoor portraiture of this tree frog that could pass for an indoor setup scene it is so very clean.
The frog looks so relaxed he seems to taking this all in as if he was just waiting to be photographed. The colorful image is excellent throughout.
Congratulations on the WP for this very fine image.......
