Richard, this is without doubt an absolutely stunning image and pin sharp, as good a perched bird presentation as I've ever seen, anywhere. devil

A beautiful composition and bird, Richard.  The yellow chin seems pretty featureless and I wonder if you might be able to bring out some detail there by backing off on the yellows just a bit in that area.  Lovely perch and bg.

Love the colors.  Great pose and detail and nice complimentary background. Nice rule of thirds composition.

Quite a striking little bird and an excellent capture of it, Richard!  The classic thirds composition works great and the smooth background really makes it stand out.  Lots of clarity and detail in the large version.  Well done!

It's really easy to blow out the yellows, so I see what Dennis is talking about, but overall I think you nailed the exposure.  Beautiful color, and some nice detail in the plumage.

I think you did a really good job with the composition and color overall however I do agree with Dennis and Max about the yellows.  It would be pretty easy to use the adjustment brush in light room and fix this.  That would put the image over the top.

Really nice, Richard. Really super background. I agree with some of the comments about the yellow throat. In fact, I think the exposure for most of the bird could be dialed back just a bit. If it were mine, I might also experiment with a different crop that has a bit more room on top and a little less on the bottom.

Thanks to all for your comments. I think that Jerry's got it right. Even though I use a calibrated monitor, I find that when I post to NPN, the post appears darker than the original. I'm not sure if it's because of compression or something the way the image is shown on NPN. So I've gotten in the habit of brightening posts by a 1/3 or more. Thanks Jerry for pointing that out. Lovely image.  I like the detail, diagonal perch, awesome head turn/eye contact.  Wonderful light and the background could not be better.

Nice head turn you managed on this one Richard. I agree with Max and think the exposure overall looks good. As far as why something might look darker on NPN, not sure how to answer that, but sometimes the color might look different based on what color profile you are using.
