Floating Leaf

I'm not sure what species this is as it's just one I picked up in Olympia when I was there for lunch one day.  I was rather surprised when I tried this that leaves don't float as well as I thought they would, so I double-sticky taped a small piece of balsa wood under the leaf for floatation and put it in my pond.  The reflected leaves are from some miniature cattails.

Once again, this is an image that I posted when it was taken about a year ago.

5Diii, EF180mm f/3.5L, tripod,  f/16, 1/160, iso 500 aperture priority, pattern metering, +1 1/3 EV.  Processed in LR5 & CS6.  There was probably a bit of a crop for composition in this one.  Taken November 25th, 2016.

Please view large-it does make a difference.

Your critiques are very much appreciated.

Thanks,

Love the metallic appearance and the surface tension effect. Almost like floating in mercury.

Very effective with appropriate level of focus on the leaf and its contact with the water.  I'm assuming you played around with different levels of focus of the surrounding plants and concentric water circles until you found something that was effective.  The current image in conjunction with the sky reflection works well here.

Excellent one, Dennis. The sharpness of the leaf and the softness of the rest of the scene works perfectly......laugh

Dennis,
A very clean, simple image with a strong emotional response.
Excellent.

This is a fine result from your "experiments" in leaf floating, Dennis., nicely visulized.  The leaf balances well with the reflected grasses and the cloudy sky with it's touch of blue works well also.  The small ripple in the lrc is a neat extra bit.

Oh man, I LOVE this!  Your extra effort and careful attention to detail really paid off.  The simple and well-balanced composition, and sharpness of the leaf against the soft, but identifiable background helps to make this a very moving image for me.  BRAVO!

Dennis I really like this one. Nice simple, but really strong image. Great focus on the leaf with great foreboding wintry sky reflected in the silvery water. Nicely done.
