There but not there.

This is the view from the Mount St. Helens visitor center the day we were there. We were told the mountain would fill this opening to about 1/3 to 1/2 from its bottom if the smoke from the wildfires weren't obscuring it.

Raw file processed in LRCC. TK resize/sharpening for web.
Canon 80D, 1/400 s, f/9, ISO 800, EF 24-105mm f/4 @ 28 mm, CPL, HH.

Please view the large image!

Seeking any and all advice and comments. Thanks in advance.

I like the vegetation, but this isn't really working for me, other than to document the fire/visibility conditions.

"There but not there"

You have created  beautiful frame for "there". But since the there is "Not there" the image lacks a central focus. If there had been a faint outline of the mountain I think you would have made your point more effectively. I think it's still a nice image though and the processing looks realistic. It's interesting that the frame is so large that it's almost not a frame.

I like the framing of the area you are trying to bring attention too. It would have been nice to see the mountain I agree.  Is there a way you might dodge out the smoke? A slight outline of the mountain might bring this image alive. Very nice overall view from the visitor's center.

Really nice frame and since there is no there there, it makes an interesting image.  Hopefully one of these days you will get to fill it in.

My son lives close to this in Oregon and have had a horrible year with the fires. This is an interesting view from the visitor center and really documents the smoky conditions. It would be fascinating to see this same shot/location with the mounatin clear and crisp this fall or winter.
