BETTER DETAIL IN THE LARGER IMAGE.

Robin and I were out this afternoon on the Eglin Reservation (part of Eglin AFB - 735,000 acres of beautiful pineland and swamps) and saw this beautiful Pipewort growing alongside one the streams on the Reservation.

Comments and suggestions always welcomed and greatly appreciated.

Bill,

I think you did a good job capturing and showcasing the Pipewort.  I'm especially drawn to and like the long stems gracefully spreading out from the base (have no idea what they're called.  Overall though this is somewhat busy. You didn't mention, but your DOF looks pretty good, which I think takes away from the plant and those stems.

The only real nit would be the brightness of the trunks, especially the one directly behind the plant. Just a suggestion, but maybe a slight crop (all the way around, but favoring cropping the top) to tighten up the comp a little would reduce the amount of background.  Along with that, some burning of the trunks.

For sure, you did well to capture and display this interesting plant - despite the difficulty of the chaotic surroundings.

I pretty much agree with Lon on this one. For me the issue here is codominance. Which is it , rich colors at the bottom or the trunks and branches at the top. The crop suggestion is essentially an attempt to give the lower half more dominance but you lose those wonder 'shooting stars'. The overall idea for the composition is sound : an arc and straight lines above. The rich greens are wonderful and shoot get all the glory in the image.

This is a delightful scene, Bill.  The greens of the water plants contrast very well with the gray tree trunks.  That "spray of spikes" (which I assume is the Pipewort) is a neat addition that has me grinning because it's so unusual.
