Diving for Eggs

This particular Spirit Bear found a spot in the stream where salmon eggs were accumulating. He stood in this spot for long periods of time dunking his head under water feeding on the eggs. His head would stay under water for quite some time and then he would lift his head to take a breath and occasionally shake off the water. I captured this particular image just after he lifted his head. Processed with Lightroom, Photoshop and Lightzone. Comments and critiques welcome.

Hey Jerry,
I have really been enjoying your series from your Great Bear Rainforest Trip. This one and the 'Patient Fisherman' are on top of my favorites list so far. I'm enjoying the detail and lighting in this composition with the facial expression and the dripping water that really makes this one special. My only nit is that the image feels a bit tilted and in need of some CW rotation. I would consider lining up the tail and the tail reflection in this case to see if it may improve the situation.   laugh

I like the way this bear stands out from the background and (of course...) the water dripping off it's muzzle.  The details all look good and the subtle reflections are fine additions.

The larger version of this shows wonderful detail.  You got a lot of amazing shots on this trip.

Excellent exposure.  Thanks for including the description of the behaviors observed!  I would use the reflections of the legs to determine the correct amount of rotation.

The larger image really brings out the great detail in this image.  From the dark of the trees to the light of the bears coat shows details.  Well taken.  Thanks for sharing.
