Sweeping Dune

I took this in June as evening approached and I was hiking out of Deadvlei, in Namibia's Sossusvlei region.  The sweep of the dune was captivating.  Canon EOS 5D Mark IV, Canon EF100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L IS II USM at 164mm, tripod mount, manual exposure f/22 @ 1/25th, ISO 250.

The simple graphic nature and the strong colors in the dune and sky are great, Charles.  The dead tree makes a fine counter point to the dune and is positioned perfectly.  This looks great as presented, but it could also be shown as a pano, with some of the blue sky removed.

I like the simple composition, the colors, the lines and the use of shadow and light. I agree with Marks thought to take out some of the sky and make it more of a pano.

What a great photo. Lines are great and the composition has a flowing balance to it. Nicely done. Lighting is spectacular. And I like the way you put the dead tree in the foreground to add perspective. Keep up the good work

I like the wedge of light on the foreground which enhances the light on the curved dune.  I too could like a little less sky.

Great use of light, shadow, shapes and lines. All brought together beautifully here. Comp works as is for me but a bit less sky also works well. I also like the color tones this has. Nice work Charles!

That is a pretty interesting curve!  Curious if you have a version w/o that tree in the fg.  I know what you were going for there but would be interested in seeing the scene w/o.  Glad you got out there!
