Widow Skimmer + RePost

Gallery: Macro & Close-upPosted October 18, 2017137 views6 comments
A nicely aged widow skimmer perched over the duck pond.  Dirt common, but catch them in the right light, they have amazing, subtle coloration. K5 IIs 180 mm f3.5 (1/250 sec at f14, ISO 500) Levels, -curve on Lights2 Luminosity Mask.. I reposted the image according to Mark's suggestion of selectively brightening up the white bands in the wings.  Looks much improved...................Jim

Really good depth to this front to back for the dragonfly with a wonderful simple green BG. Clean and clear, nicely done Jim.

Jim, the dof is terrific along with the details in the df and the uniform background.  This is a classic pose for these dfs and you've captured it very well.  To my eyes, the whites in the wings seem a bit dull, I wonder how a bit of dodging would look.

Following Mark's suggestion, I dodged in the white areas on the wing to brighten them up a bit and adjusted the layer opacity to produce dodged areas of acceptable brightness. The luminosity masks for the lights that I used to tame down the bright perch also reduced the impact of the whites in the wings in the original image.  Thank you for the suggestion........................Jim

The subtle touch of extra brightness in the repost adds well to an already fine image, Jim.  Your repost reinforces my belief that subtle changes can often make big differences in perception.
