Dark-eyed Junco
by Dennis Plank
Another image from yesterday morning. The perch is a nicely deteriorating old round that I use to stash hazelnuts for the Steller's Jays. Unfortunately, they were too fast for me to catch them yesterday and were always moving too fast by the time I got the shutter released. However, I did get a couple of other species to pose nicely on the top of it.
In this case I didn't have sufficient depth-of-field to get the entire perch in focus and has an area directly under the middle of the bird that didn't like. I managed to find a nearby frame where that area was in decent focus so I copied that part of the secon image and cloned it over the oof area.
7Dii, Sigma 150-600 C @ 435 mm, Jobu Gimbal mounted to blind window, f/9, 1/320, iso 1600, aperture priority, pattern metering, -1/3 EV. Processed in LR & PS CC. Cropped to 16.4 MP before resizing. I also did a bit of cloning on the bg to tame an overly bright oof grass stem in the bg. Taken at 10:04 am on October 20th under mostly cloudy skies.
Please view the larger image, if possible.
