Mountain Magic

Here is another image that I captured on my recent trip.  This was taken at the Linville Gorge area not far from the Blue Ridge Parkway.  I was drawn to the way that the fog was passing in front of this mountain as it was being lit by the rising sun.

This image was a bit tricky to process as the RAW file started out pretty flat.  As with all of my work, my aim in processing is to capture the natural vibrance of the scene.  Please feel free to let me know if I went too far in the processing of this image.

As always all comments and critiques are welcome!  crying

Capture Info:
150 mm
f/8 @ 1/125 sec
ISO 100

Processing Info:
RAW Processing in Lightroom
Levels Adjustment to set black and white point
TK's luminosity and vibrance masks
Color balance adjustment
A hint of TK's Make it Glow
Slight vignette
Slight crop

The image has a real nice dreamy mood to it. Processing does not look too far at all. I might consider cropping a bit off the top. Doing a scroll crop, it seems to tighten up the comp a bit? Not a biggie either way.

Brian, there is a most appealing natural feel to your image for me. I especially enjoy the kind of rhythm and flow in the composition.

The large view is so much better than the small it is remarkable...
The fall warmth and color comes out so much better.
I also think a bit off the top or maybe a 16X9 with some off both top and bottom might look good.

The clouds lend some wonderful atmospherics to this beautiful scene, Brian. The large version is a real treat and shows off the details rather nicely and your processing looks good to me. My only suggestion; just my personal preference; would be to clone out the tree in the LRC as it draws my eye in the large version. Either way this is a beauty.

Brian,

You've captured (and processed) a wonderful moment in time.  I do not believe you've gone too far in processing. In fact I'd say it looks totally natural!

I'm kinda thinking along the lines of Dan's suggestion on trimming off top and bottom.  Not sure why, but I'm on a pano kick as of late.  There's a long layer of fog through the middle that lends itself to a narrower crop.  but of course that's all your own personal choice.

Well done.

Brian, I think you did very well with the processing. It looks very natural to me. This is a beautiful scene, with lots of layers of light and shadow mixed in with the layers of fog and mountainside. I also like the warm and cool contrast up top. I agree with Ed's suggestion of cloning out the LRC tree.

Brian, Really enjoyed the larger version where your processing looks good to me. At first I thought it was a bit warm but while looking it did seem quite natural to me. I do agree that the tree in the lower right corner could go. A beautiful fall scene and I love that fog.
