I took this photo of what I believe to be a Tri-Color yesterday at Huntington Beach State Park in SC.  Handheld, Canon 5D Mark II, Canon 100-400 mm L lens at 400 mm, f9.5, 1/350, ISO 500.  I was on a boardwalk looking down on him, so I couldn't get down to his eye level as I would have wished.  Cropped at 77%.  Comments and suggestions welcome.

Shirley, you are quite correct, a juvenile tricolor. Nice timing for the spiky hair-do. You may want to try a vertical for this.

A nice look at this juvenile Tricolor Heron.  The ruffled look is fun.  It appears that you had overcast conditions, but you were still able to get some reasonably good detail.  I like the composition.  There is a diagonal sense to the image with the water lines running diagonal and the bird facing the direction of the water lines.  Unfortunately, state parks and wildlife refuges aren't built for, avian photographers , but to keep people away from the wildlife.

I like the position in the frame. Nice color and nice detail in the bird. Very nice image.

Detail and exposure both look good, Shirley, and I like the ruffled up look.  I think it would be better if there were a way to get lower, but it's not excessively steep.  I do wish you had gotten the entire reflection.
