Yellow Lady-slippers

I am still dabbling with getting a pretty good image of these orchids in a high key presentation.  These grow in dense cover in a mesic hardwood forest and are difficult to isolate from the surrounding vegetation.  I used a white umbrella for the BG and photographed them at 1/4 sec at f25, Iso 200.  The BG was slightly underexposed so I used the color range feature in Cs5 and selected the BG from the orchid.  I used the paint bucket to replace the gray portions with white.  Finally, I used the Shadows and Highlights to pull up the details in the shadow and cropped for comp.  The large view has better color and detail for viewing. Thank you Bill and Sandy for placement in the Flora Gallery.............................................Jim

Jim, this is beautiful! Wonderful detail, positions of the flowers, and technique.
Not sure this needs to go in PA, though - there is usually quite a bit of leeway in Flora, and images like this are not outside the Gallery definitions, IMO. Let's see what Bill and Phil  think.

Very delicate and nice detail. I have no problem with this being in flora. It could use a bit of touchup, at least the 4 black specs. The toe of both slippers seems a tad hot. The composition and technique are tops!cool
