Looking Back

Found this Big Boy while hiking in the Mesa Verde. He was following 6 females in a heavy wooded area which gave me limited opportunity for a clear view to get a shot. Hand held from prone position, cropped to vertical 40% of full frame, 2 distracting branches cloned out.

Can't believe the lack of comments on this one Mike.  This is a really nice buck. I really like the colors and the pose.  The BG just above the buck seems a bit odd to me, it might be from the cloning, not sure.  I wonder if you could selectively apply a bit of Gaussian blur to smooth that out a bit more.

I know everyone is busy but this gallery really seems to be dragging right now.

This is tough, contrasty lighting.  I think you did a fine job of handling it.  And yes, this is am impressive mule deer offering a classic look-back pose.  Only tweak I might try would be to remove some of the reflected blue off the shadowed whites on his face.

Wonderful specimen and I do like the look back pose and the low angle.  Difficult lighting
