Three Dry Rocks

These are rocks in the Merced River in Yosemite valley. Do you have those images where you think you might be the only one who likes it?  (which is fine in my book, I make images primariiy for myself)  This is one of those for me. Who knows, but I thought I would post it anyway. Honest thoughts, input and opinions are always valued and appreciated.

Love all of the repeated oval shapes.  The 3 rocks stand out well, but the other rocks behind look very much the same tone as the dry rocks so my eye gets a little confused.  I believe the other rocks are under water.  A pano crop might isolate the 3 as well and work with the 3 arrangement as well.  Only an option, like it fine as is.  The conversion and rock detail are excellent.

Love this Harley!  It's different - and what makes it unique for me is that you can't really "see" the water, but you know it's there. It's deceptive, yet engaging.  The trio of exposed rocks make for a very pleasing arrangement and overall composition.

I often times will splash water on the tops of dry rocks like this... but the exposed, dry rock here is what separates from the rest of the underwater rock.

This is just cool.  Well seen and beautifully crafted.

Beautiful composition.  I don't know anything about the Merced River or the Yosemite Valley, but it looks like you converted this to B&W?  But maybe you didn't.  If you did, I'd love to see it in color -- but I realize it may already be in color.

I like this! It has a simplicity and quiet mood that is very appealing. The tones look great. Another thing I find very interesting is the clarity of the water and lack of any reflections. The dry rocks appear to be floating above the the other rocks. Nicely done!

Well seen, Harley. The shapes and textures are very appealing. This is the sort of image that would work well as a large print. I could see doing some creative burning to direct more focus on the rock trio.

I like the composition, but I agree Barbara that I would like to see this one in color also.

A lovely and whimsical twist on this scene with water and rocks. Very creative!

Harley, I like this. The composition is very nice, as is the B&W conversion. I'm not sure how I feel about the flat appearance of the underwater rocks. They do a good job of separating the foreground from the background, but it's just a strange optical illusion. Regardless of that, excellent eye to see and isolate this scene.

This is really well seen, Harley.  I love the subtlety here in tonality.  That's what it's totally about.  I do have a suggestion, and that would be to crop this so that the dark diagonal line bisects the image more 50/50.  It's a small change but somehow looks nice on a roll crop. I like it as is fine.
