End of the Road

Shot on a recent trip through Central Utah.  I was hoping for some dramatic clouds that afternoon so I could shoot a more expansive landscape but when the clouds didn't cooperate, I decided to focus on the terrain itself.

Interesting formations, looks similar to Gary Phillips BW location.  Nice to see what the color version looks like.  Like the perspective you chose to photograph the badlands.  My suggestion would be a slight crop off the top just below the brownish band.  Maybe a little addition sat and contract would emphasize the textures more.   Well done.

Wow, I can't believe this image only has one other comment so far.  This is a powerful and eye-catching image IMHO. It has to be seem large to be fully appreciated, but that is true of most images on NPN.  I really enjoy the finer details within this image and the subtle color variations within it.  Very pretty!.

Paula,

Ditto to what Bill said - all of it!  I think this is a fantastic landscape image. The landscape formations and the soft earth tones, including gray are amazing especially considering this is in direct sunlight. Which is awesome that you were able to pull this off without anything become harsh.

There's much to love and enjoy with this landscape.  You've done a great job capturing this fascinating part of the world.

This is a marvelous image of an incredible place. I think you've done a great job with the composition. The light looks so gentle it's amazing that this was taken in mid day. This could be converted to b&w with added contrast. Then the upper brown layer would not be an issue. The tiny 'crows feet' coming in from the bottom of the frame are really great and these appear best in the larger versions. In fact, the entire image pops out in the larger versions with greater detail throughout.

I know this location well,  Paula.  I like what you have here.  What it lacks, for me, is the drama that low level light adds to this landscape.  This is primarily a morning location that comes to life at day break.  Other than that, very nice.

This is great, Paula, with a fine collection of shapes, colors and textures.  I'm especially drawn to the shapes and textures in the "big bowl" that occupies the foreground.  I could see cropping to eliminate the distant waterway.
