Fall on the River 2

Here's another photo from a brisk fall morning at a local river. After the sun rose, it started breaking through the clouds and fog and illuminating the trees upriver. This started as a vertical image, but there was way too much river, and the closer rocks were pretty soft, so I cropped it square. Looking forward to any comments and critiques!

The muted autumn color works beautifully with the light fog in this scene, Craig. I also like the soft lighting along with the interplay of warm and cool tones you captured here. This is just a matter of personal taste, but I am thinking I like this even more with the brighter ULC cropped off as it pulls my eye slightly. Or maybe tone down slightly. Either way this is nicely done.

Your crop looks very good, Craig.  I think this view is very nicely balanced with the three main areas, the brightly lit tree trunks, the misty but bright colored leaves, and the rocky blue stream.

Craig,

This is wonderful! Although we don't know the original, I think you did well to crop, although I'm guessing you drew the line on the crop based on more rock in the river and adding just a smidge more is problematic?  But really, I think you made a great choice on the crop.

What strikes me here is the mix of light and atmosphere.  I mean there's a part where the sun is poking through tossing light directly on a patch of trees... yet in the river and beyond there is the foggy mist.

Although I like to make my own images pop just a bit, I think any change in saturation or contrast would change the mood dramatically. I'm really enjoying the muted colors and contrast throughout.

I wouldn't change much, if anything.  Rather than cropping ULC, I think just a couple passes of a burn stroke would do the trick.

Well seen and crafted. Love it.

Craig, This image is very enjoyable for me to look at. It seems to capture the feel of a foggy and misty autumn morning so well. I like the square crop and from what you said also sounds like it was a good choice. Very nice as is for me.

Pretty sweet, Craig.  I love the light here.  Just enough river and the square crop is just right.  Excellent work.

Craig, the interplay of the water and the trees with their beautiful foliage makes this image intriguing for me. I especially appreciate your choice of shutter speed to keep a natural impression of the flow. Finally, the slight haze connects all the diverse elements wonderfully to me.

I just think of vignetting the upper left corner a bit, that might help me to concentrate on the main elements. Thanks for sharing this unique expereince!
