I was intrigued with the beautiful wood of the Bristlecone Pines on Mt.Evans and was taking a photo of this tree trunk when a little squirrel (or chipmunk?) made an appearance. What a gift! One of those moments when you feel so lucky to be seeing what you are seeing, and able to record it for others. It was a rainy day so the wood was wet, making it a little more vibrant.

Canon 5d,M3, ISO 400, 73mm, f/9, 1/100 sec.

Thanks in advance for any comments or critiques.

Kathy, great composition, plus the critter!  I like the texture in the wood.  The foreground and background gives just enough information to anchor the scene.  Nice detail.

I like how the rain brings out the colors in these relics.  I think this could be just a bit darker, to bring out more of the woods colors.  I think the little critter is a pine squirrel since I can't see any stripes on it.  Nicely seen and taken.  Thanks for sharing.

The rain really helps bring out the color and detail in the wood Kathy. I really appreciate the setting among the rocks and greenery with the little squirrel adding a nice finishing touch.

Sometimes the largest object is not the center of attention. I think the squirrel is. The rock at left center looks like the head of another critter (at least to me), and it appears to be looking at the squirrel. The wonderful wave in the tree also point to it. Excellent image.

Awwwwwwwww... the little squirrel is such a cute addition here, Kathy.  It really sets the scale for the lovely convoluted tree trunk.  The details are great.  This larger view overfilled my monitor cutting off some of the bottom, which leads me to suggest cropping from the bottom to just above the lowest rock.
