Fall in NH 3 + Repost

Here's one more post from the Swift River along the Kancamagus Highway in NH. I cropped off the left to get down to a 4x5, as there was a fairly blank section of water lower left. I look forward to any and all comments!

The water came out so nicely in this image. You couldn't do water better than this. The fall trees, with a sprinkling of yellow in the dark greens, look real good. Both halves of the composition are really well done. I would dodge the llc a bit. One of your recent best. It's my favorite fall image of yours.

This is just gorgeous, Craig. I love the warm colors of the rocks to go with the golden, orange and red leaves in the forest. Shutter speed on the water looks just right for me. No suggestions!

This is outstanding, Craig. I love the layers and your chosen SS has created some lovely details in the water. I also like the subtle autumn color in the BG trees. No suggestions from me other than print it and hang it.

This is a well thought out image, Craig.  The detail and color along with the shutter speed of the river all work well.  I think I would dodge both the BL and TR and then add a vignette to even the corners.  If it is vignetted already, then I would reduce the effect until the corners are more even.

Wonderful scene, the cascades in the water are nicely captured and I like the vague symmetry with them more central and the darker more still water to the sides. I also found it a bit unbalanced how the left upper corner is relatively darker than the other corners.

The water flow looks fantastic to me - the textures in the water make this area a eye catcher.  The tree colors look a bit subdued, which is fine.  I might try brightening a bit to see how that affects the feel of the image.  There seems to be a yellowish color cast to the blacks in the image, which would affect how the background looks - contrast and separation of colors.  A nice find.

Craig, the water here is just perfect, nice job on the shutter speed. I like how the repeating layers of rocks and cascades just pull you into the scene. The placement of rocks in the lower left creates a nice entry point into the scene. I agree with the others comments about there being too much of a vignette, especially in the bottom left and upper right. I also feel like the darks in the river water could benefit from being slightly lighter and showing a little more detail, but it's hard to say how much of this is the current vignette. Overall, a nice pleasing warm autumn feel to this image, nice job.

Nice colors, Craig. I think your choice of shutter speed is perfect. I typically prefer a similar range with moving water, giving texture to the water yet keeping the feel of motion. I agree with others about the darker corners.

This is one, sweet capture of a river I've forded more than once. Beautiful, silky water contrasted with the unmovable strength of the rocks. The background is crystal clear and sharp. We can leave it our imaginations to think of a deer edging up for a drink -- or, leave it for another lucky day.   -Dave

Craig,

Man, the large view opens up beautifully!  It's unknown and unfortunate that so many of the smaller original posts don't display like they should.  In your image here, the LL and UR corners are quite dark in the op, but the LL corner in the water opens up very nicely in the large view.  I do think you could dodge or somehow brighten the URC a bit.  Otherwise, I love the flow, texture, color and shutter speed in the river - oh, and the rocks too!  And to that end, I think you could get away with a top crop, say to just below the sun-lit yellow leaves along the top; for me the river is the story and the autumn forest along the shore is more of a supporting element.  Of course combined, this is quite the wonderful scene.

Thanks all for the comments! I originally processed this as the original 2x3 with a vignette on the upper corners that I think worked much better in that format. When I cropped to 4x5, I forgot about the vignette and didn’t look at the cropped image closely enough, but I agree that upper right is much too dark. I’ll rework my file.

Beautiful fall view. I would add one more suggestion to burn or clone the bright spot center of the top edge. Really sweet scene.

Drop dead gorgeous, Craig.  I mean it, this is extraordinary IMHO.  Absolutely perfect shutter speed for the water, plus the clarity of the water makes viewing the rock detail so nice.  If anything, I might crop the top down a little, maybe 10-15% at most; otherwise this is REALLY sweet.

Thanks all for catching the dark corners! Here's a re-worked image with lightened URC and LLC, and a slight crop off the top.

What a lovely forest scene. Straight out of a fairy tale. The composition gets everything to work together perfectly. I love the way the water has been rendered and the overall color and darkness adds to the effect. Fantastic job on this Craig.
