Kalij Pheasant, female

Here's a shot from our recent trip to Thailand.  This is full frame and was taken from a blind near Keang Krachan National Park, I wish I had brought my 300F4 as the pheasants were often a little too close for the 500F4, I managed to squeeze this female in.  Corn and fruits are put down for the various birds and animals which come in and there is a pool for the birds to bathe and drink from.  It's under the canopy of the forest so there is not a lot of light most of the time.

Canon 1DX II, 500F4 1/60 F5, iso 2000, Av mode, evaluative metering -1.0, 580ex fill flash at -1.3, Gitzo tripod, Wimberley head.

Interesting bird and nicely framed, Nate.  That is pretty low light, though I've seen a lot of people going to iso 4000 or 6400 with the DXii.  The fill flash worked nicely to bring out the detail.

Another super cool looking pheasant Nate! Excellent sharpness for such low light, nice over-all balance with the use of the fill flash.

Sweet One!

You managed to bring out terrific detail on this hen Nate. Considering the light we had this is a superb look at this beauty.

Nice light for this portrait, Nate. Focus is very good considering shutter and the paper-thin DOF. A little tight at the bottom for me. Too bad the bird's feet got lost in the perch, but nothing you could do about that.

Very exotic.  A nice composition of this fascinating pheasant.  Terrific color and detail and a wonderful setting.
