East Side of Zion National Park during Desert Bighorn rut in mid August. This ram was pursuing this ewe to the top of the hill and around and around. Deep shade, and intense backlighting, along with a cut to about 75% of original. Canon 5Diii, f8, 1/250 sec, iso 400, -0.7 EV, 100-400 ISL ii with 1.4X TC at 490 mm, Handheld.  Thank you for your thoughts and suggestions.

This photo needs to be judged by the larger image, IMHO!  The details are much better in the large image as is the colors.  I understand this is a major crop, but I do think if it will allow a bit tighter would help.  I think you have handled the deep shadows you refer to very well.  Thanks for sharing.

This is a really neat capture Ed, I like the environment and you caught a great pose from the male.  The light was a bit harsh but you handled it well. devil

I like the comp and the wonderfully colored setting.  I would have wished to not have the brush covering part of the ewe, but this does offer a good sense of story.  I agree you handled a problematic contrasty scene well.

A very nice behavioral and environment shot of these sheep, Ed!  Excellent detail, exposure and color also, especially considering the difficult lighting conditions and large crop.  The large version is a must see for this one!
