Ill Tempered Egret

I found this reddish egret on a mostly overcast dawn at the Bolsa Chica Wetlands last weekend. I love the mane and the ill tempered look they have when they ruffle their feathers. Canon 60D, f5, 1/40 sec, iso 800, 100-400 ISL ii, at 182mm, braced on rail of boardwalk bridge, cropped from landscape to portrait.

Certainly caught a great look on the egrets face. Colors look OK to me for an overcast day. I am not sure if the reflection adds to or distracts from the egret. TFS.

That's quite a display, Ed. Aside from their dancing antics, it's one characteristic I enjoy watching with the Reddish. Not too shabby for a crop, The vertical works well with the pose.

Really cool pose, Ed. The ruffled plumage really makes it and the nearly head on look adds a lot to the effect. Pretty good image quality for 1/40 exposure braced on a railing.
