Snowy Owl

I spent last week in a rural area of Saskatchewan photographing Snowy Owls.  Here is a beautiful male I photographed as the sun went down on New Year's Day.  Canon EOS 5D Mark IV, Canon EF500mm f/4L IS II USM, manual exposure f/9 at 1/5000th, ISO 3200.

There are what appear to be 2 dust specks on lower right at convergence of blue and tan. Could be objects at a distance and not sure about retaining the light spot in owl's left pupil.  Otherwise, wonderful shot.

You guys are killin' me with the snowy shots! There is one - maybe two - in Northern WA state, and more seem NOT to be coming.
Gorgeous head-on shot with great wing position and BG.
I'd also remove the light spot in the eye
Nice capture!

Thanks for the tips.  I have removed the light spot from the eye and it does indeed improve the image.

Yup, the repost is much improved with those little changes.  This one has really nice lighting, detail, wing position.  Beautiful bird.

This is a beautiful shot Charles. Great light and a good background combined with a strong head on position.
I guess if I was being really picky I'd love to see the shot of the owl in flight after taking off from the post, rather than sitting on it. Having said that, I've never even got close to capturing a snowy owl in the wild so maybe I should just hush.

Charles
Gorgeous capture of this Snowy Owl. The eyes are exceptional. Great detail on the feathers. Don’t know if you could find more detail in the bright white areas above the nose and on the edge of the wings?  It looks super as is though.
