I have been experimenting with flash. On the right a flash with a home made softbox, on the left a reflector. The dark blue background is not illuminated by the flash. Since the flash is relatively close to the flower there is a considerable intensity gradient, that was intended. All C&C is very much appreciated.

Specs: Canon 40D, iso 100, 1/125 sec; Canon 24-105, @67 mm, f/13, CPL; tripod, cable release

Igor,
This is a gorgeous rendition. I love the lighting, I think the shading is perfect. I think this is the best image you have posted so far. My only suggestion is to clone out the little orange spot on the lowest petal.

Well made, with lovely lighting and detail. Cloning out the orange spot would be helpful, but minor. I would consider a bit more room on the top, less on the left and more on the right, to give the image some breathing room and a more comfortable placement.

Thanks very much for your feedback. I was just so busy with my flash and reflector that I did not pay enough attention to composition, I added some space. Usually I do not mind small imperfections like the orange spot. However I can imagine that once you've noticed it, it becomes an eye magnet, so I removed it.

Igor: I like the original and especially like the repost. Very nice lighting with no obvious flash appearance. Most excellent.>=))>

Very nice, Igor. The use of the flash is subtle, and you retained detail in the white petals, which is not easy with a flash.  As for the comp, I would go with something in between your two posts. In the original, I did think you needed more room on the right so the flower had some space in the direction it was looking, but I think the repost has a bit too much negative space. I personally would remove some of the dark bg off the right and top.

Igor, gorgeous bloom and nice lighting. Very nice work. The added space in the repost is a bit too much for me. I prefer keep the leaves and not crop from the left or bottom. Because they are beautiful. The one top leaf has a nice curve in the original version.

Still not good enough. I went back to the original, added extra space and repositioned the flower. Here is the 'final' result. Thanks a lot for your feedback, I appreciate that and it has been very helpful.
