American Oystercatcher

Oystercatcher? I'm always amused by the name, as though they have to chase bivalves down the beach. But truth is they are quite well adapted for dispatching the tasty treats. This is the first of several, and in less than two minutes this became a hearty meal. Shot a few years ago on Mullet Key in Tampa Bay.

The colors are very nice and you captured this guy getting ready for the clam bake.  Well done......................Jim

As often as I have seen Oystercatchers, I have never seen them actually "catch", open and eat an oyster. With two hands and an oyster knife, I still have a bit of trouble opening an oyster! Good capture of an enlightening moment.

I really like the color and contrast in this one.  Nice action.  Well composed.  There's a lot to like about this picture.
