Fairweather Sunset
by Chris Chamberlain
So I finally had an opportunity to shoot a layered landscape after more than 10 years of photography! This is part of the inside passage and the Fairweather range in the background. Now, I was on the balcony of our room while on a cruise. So this is handheld at a 30th of a second and F/6.7, iso 400 with a 70-200 F4 lens on a Nikon D7100 while and the ship was moving! Anyway, I started getting excited when this sky started to burn and the semi silhouettes and layers formed before me. But as the ship moved the comps were constantly changing. This was one of the last. I didn't think it stood a chance for a print. But I got some help evaluating it's print potential and some suggestions on how to approach the sharpening from Mark Metternich. And I must say that the 45 inch acrylic Lumachrome Print I had made is pretty awesome! I acquired Mark's video tutorials awhile back. I have completely changed my workflow for print preparations. Calibrated monitor now and editing in the color space for the print I want to make. Soft proofing in ACR and Photoshop, as well as a 12x18 proof print before pulling the trigger on the big stuff. Anyway, He is the man when it comes to all this photography and Photoshop stuff!
Thanks
Chris

In the repost, I think you took out too much cyan, especially in the foreground water. So, something between the original and repost might look nice, too.

I'm really enjoying the distant mountain range and the sky throughout this image. The arrangement of layers provides us an eye path through the gap in the FG landmasses and right up and over the main peak in the BG. Nice work.

This is grand and glorious! What an experience to have while cruising the inside passage. No nits or suggestions, just enjoyment. thanks for sharing this one.
