Say's Phoebe

There were a lot of these scattered around Bosque del Apache in December, but despite the man-made perch, this was the best shot I got of one.  I figure we've probably been using screw drive water gates for a couple of thousand years at least, so that comes close to making them part of nature.  I really liked the way the winter leaves in the bg echoed the coloration of the bird.

7Dii, Sigma 150-600 C @ 374 mm, beanbag on car window, f/8, 1/2000, iso 800, aperture priority, pattern metering.  Processed in LR & PS CC.  Cropped from a horizontal original, nearly full height (size after crop is 10.5 MP).  Taken December 16th, 2017 at 1:28 pm.

Your comments and critiques are always appreciated.

Thanks,

Lots to like here, Dennis. There are loads of these control gates in Bosque, so good that you made use of the perch. In a sense it's like Archimedes Screw, both for water control but with a different approach.

That's fine as posted. I like the texture and color of the perch - they go well with the tones of the Phoebe.

A fine image to this bird!  I like the perch, adds something a bit more unique to the photo.  Colors, details, pose are all great.  Was this hand held or tripod?  Impressed with the sharpness of the lens you are using.  TFS.

Great pic Dennis.  Love the composition and subtle yet complementary background.  Keep up the good work!

Nice detail and pose on the phoebe.  The background color/texture really add to the image.  This one might have been more appropriately posted in the man and fauna gallery?
