Spotted Towhee...

Spotting me.  At least that's certainly what it seems like.  I was going through files looking for local birds today and ran across this one that I don't believe I've posted.  There were some really ugly rocks on our right of the bird, so I did some pretty serious cloning to clean up the background.  I also added some canvas vertically to balance things a bit better.  I like the single eye centered in the image.

7Dii, Sigma 150-600 C @ 403 mm, tripod with ballhead and sidekick, f/8 1/800, iso 1600, -2/3 EV.  Processed in LR & PS CC.  Cropped from a horizontal original with canvas added vertically and quite a bit of cloning on the bg.  Taken July 26th, 2017 at 8:38 am.

Comments and critiques are always welcome.

Thanks

I like this towhee image lots!   One of the birds I see now and then at the nature center and am always trying for a better photo.  This point of view catches the personality of these birds, or at least it seems like it to me.  Thanks for sharing.

Great shot. The move so quickly (and don't remain in one spot for long) that it is difficult to get a shot like this.

Hi Dennis
Great eye contact and over all detail.  I am still trying to make up my mnd on The Sigma150-600 C or Canon 100-400L ll with a 1.4 exterder?

Love the cyclops look of this one Dennis. I think I can see your setup in the reflection (just kidding, my eyes aren't that good).

Peter, I have not had much luck with the 100-400 ii and the 1.4 TC combination for clarity and detail personally. I have tried it a lot. My old 60D with my newer 100-400 ii seems to be much better, than even my 5Diii with the above combination.  Just my two cents...

Real nice view of this Spotted Towhee spotting you.  I like the framing and you've done a good job removing the extraneous material with your cloning.  Nice work on the exposure.  The black plumage is nice and rich in color.  I always have a hard time deciding whether to keep it dark and hide the texture or brighten up and reveal more contrast between the feathers.
