This egret was hunting in the grass on the bluff top above Bolsa Chica. It was very effective, picking off two lizards in just a couple of minutes as I watched. Canon 60D, f7.1, 1/3200 sec, iso 320, -1.3 EV, 100-400 ISL ii at 400 mm, cropped to about 75% of original.  Thanks for your thoughts and critiques.

A good one Ed!  Great detail in this image, except for just a small area on the birds back, but not really a distraction.  I also like the way the light is on the birds beak.  Thanks for sharing.

Nice capture.  The background matches nicely with the facial colors.  Good detail.  There does appear to be a slight blue cast on the egret.

Hi Ed,

The lighting on the beak is impressive.  The comp is nice and you may want to reduce the noise on the BG as it looks blotchy and speckled to me.  Other than that well done.........................Jim

Cool, Ed.  Nice detail in the Egret and I like the way the sun catches the beak and prey.

Fine pose of a bird that'll eat most anything. Like Andrew Zimmern says, "if it looks good, EAT IT !"

Thanks everyone for the suggestions.  I selected the BG and applied just a touch of Gaussian blur to smooth the grain out a bit.
