Downy

This Downy Woodpecker is showing some tongue action here.  This is the first time I've ever caught the Downy with its tongue sticking out.  At one time this was a nemesis bird but today it was extremely cooperative and stuck around for about 10 minutes in the same place.  It was raining a little and I removed  a few raindrops.

Iso-1600, 600 mm, F8, 500th, 95% of full frame, D 500, tripod, fill flash  at -0.3, EV zero, DxO photo lab, ACR 10, Topaz adjust, TK luminosity mask and sharpening action at 50%.

This is a real nice look at the woodpecker.  Great pose and detail.  Nice perch and background.

Beautiful detail, David, and an interesting head turn.  A great view of the back and I like the tongue.  Good work.

Lots to like here, David. The nice soft light allowed for a pleasing catch light, and the details are great in the big version. If I had one wish it would be for more room up top, would make an already excellent image even better.

Such a great shot of this woodpecker, David.  Wonderful detail in the subject, and a great complimentary background.  Nicely done.
