Golden-Crowned Sparrow

At iso 8000 ala David Schoen.  I just had to try it.  Unfortunately, the one Chickadee I caught taking off was at the wrong angle and I still ended up with some motion blur at 1/2000 exposure.  However, I did validate that I can get acceptable image quality with that iso using my 7Dii which surprised me a lot.

7Dii, Sigma 150-600 C @ 435 mm, Jobu Gimbal mounted to blind window, f/8, 1/640, iso 8000, aperture priority, pattern metering,  fill flash at -1 2/3 EV.  Processed in LR & PS CC.  Cropped to 8.5 MP from a horizontal original.  Taken at 9:05 am on February 20th.

Your comments and critiques are always welcome.

Thanks,

Another excellent shot with your 7Dii, Dennis, and using ISO 8000, with a flash too!  Wonderful detail in the feathers, and I just love that perch.  Those snowflakes sure add to the scene as well.  Nicely done.

A lovely, detailed look at this sparrow and it's interesting perch, Dennis.  Getting most of the perch and all of the bird sharp works very well and there's just enough falling and fallen snow to set the stage.

I find this to be a very pleasing image.  This is a really good pose for a golden crowned sparrow because it has a nice head turn and shows off the crown.  The small line of descending snow adjacent to the foot on the left side of the image is a particularly nice feature this image.  I just looked out the window and it's starting to snow again.

Great shot, Dennis!  I like the in and out of focus snowflakes in the background.  Excellent clarity on the bird and a nice 3D appearance, especially in the large version.

Hard to grasp this was at 8000 ISO!  Well taken for sure.  Nice perch, pose and color.  TFS
