Call of the Canyon (+B&W)

Winter finally arrived in northern Arizona the past couple of weeks, so with this most recent snow, Oak Creek Canyon above Sedona beckoned.  This is a single exposure taken after the ripples subsided after walking out into the cold water.

This is really good....
The comp, the reflection, one of the best photos posted here in a while for me.
Excellent.

Sweet.  Wow, this probably needs to be seen really large to be appreciated, way bigger than on my monitor, partly because it's a vertical.  That barely visible canyon wall in the BG is so cool, and the reflections work really well.  The overall feeling is definitely one of being in a canyon.
Also, kudos to you for being able to stand stock still for long enough for the ripples to calm down!

This is lovely, Doug.  What a great pairing of color, light, reflection, the vertical comp works well here.  Part of me wants more of the evergreens, part of me think it could be cropped to show less.  Ultimately, I like it as is.

Hi Doug,

Well done--I like the red rocks positioned on the left with snow on the right.  This one will make a beautiful print....................Jim

Love this one.  The snow in contrast with the red rock fantastic as is the nice curves.  Worth getting wet!  The only suggestion I might try would be to warm up the highlights of the red rock a bit which may give added depth.  May look a little out of place given the lighting, but maybe not.

This is a terrific view of Oak Creek Canyon, Doug.  The smooth curve of the river and snowy bank pull my eyes into the scene well.  The touch of whiteness at the very top add well to the impression of a snowy day.

This is excellent, Doug, The only suggestion I have is to print it big! The competing curves of the top of the wall and the shores is very nice. The processing look great.

Outstanding image.  Another great example of the contrast of red rock and snow.  The foggy background along with the smooth detailed reflection create a peaceful mood.

Doug, I'm really enjoying this picture. You sure captured some wonderful conditions and your comp works great. Waiting for the water to settle back down after walking out into it was a smart choice. The reflections came out beautifully and really show in the large version. The larger version also picks up lots of interest in the background. I like this alot.

I have no words!  Love it all...depth of color, reflection, comp! devil  This would also look great, if you cropped out the light sky to the treeline.  A different point of view making this an incredible portrait of a reflection...not just a landscape.

A most artistic image to me, Doug. The amount of imperfection in the reflection is just spot on in my opinion and balances the vanishing rock face at the top wonderfully.

Love the stark and pristine beauty that is depicted here. The composition is stellar and I am especially enjoying  the way you have made use of the reflection.

Very impressive work as always, Doug.
