Devil's Thumb

Here's an aerial of Devil's Thumb which is a peak near Petersburg, AK. It was taken in late morning, but given that it was late December, the sun was low in the sky. I liked the leading line of rocks leading to the bare stones of the peak. Olympus E-M1 and 12-40 lens at 1/1000, f/6.3 and ISO 200. Richard

Now, that is an imposing piece of rock and ice! Nice detail and color. I like the ridge leading up to the 'thumb'. Nice scene, indeed.

Hi Richard,

I like the sweeping diagonal of the main ridge line.  A pretty impressive scene that you captured well.......................Jim

This shot has a very high impact image, very nicely done. I love to include triangle shapes in compositions whenever possible, and this shot has a wonderful series of triangle shapes that just pull the viewer into the scene. I also like your processing here, and how you kept a slightly cooler white balance. This is a matter of personal taste, but I would consider slightly burning the foreground snow on the right, it looks a little hot on my monitor. That is a minor nit, otherwise this is a really outstanding shot.

The ruggedness of the peak stand out very well here, Richard.  The leading lines in the ridge and the snow work very well.

That is one imposing looking peak. Looking at the cloud base and the far mountains, appears it could use a CW rotation, but not sure how that would effect the peak.  Might give it a try and assess.  Aerial shots and horizons can be challenging as I found shooting from a plane in Iceland.  Processing looks great, might even look great as a BW.

I can feel as if I'm looking out the window of the airplane at this.  I like the diagonals (and there are quite a few) and composition. Some of the snow is a little hot (interesting contradiction of terms) and I don't know if the blue saturation in the shadows can be toned down a bit. I always seem to have trouble with shadowed white areas with digital sensors.
