Evening on the Ocklawaha

This young alligator was photographed last Friday from Mike Ramy's new boat on the Ocklawaha River. My wife Julie and I had an amazing three days on Lake George, Salt Springs, and along the Ocklawaha River with Mike and Julie. I have to say that I have never been four wheelin' in a boat before, and it was amazing. Mike knows the North Florida wetlands like the back of his hand. "Spring Break" was a blast. Canon 60D, iso 800, f5.6, 1/1600 sec, 100-400 ISLii at 400 mm, handheld from a moving boat.  Slight crop off behind the gator for better overall balance. Thanks for your critiques and comments, and thanks a bunch for a great trip Mike and Julie.

The warm golden light is beautiful!  See that vertical bit of vine just in front of the nose?  If you would selectively darken that in post processing, it would keep that small detail from pulling the viewer's eye away from the face.

Thank you Lon.  I tweaked the brightness of that little vine and added some gaussian blur.  Hopefully that helps.

I would think you would agree that that a small tweak can make a huge difference in end result!
