New Growth in Old Forest

I liked how these fresh new colorful leaves offset against the long old beards of Spanish moss along the shoreline of the St. Johns River in Northern Florida. This was taken from Mike Ramy's moving boat as we cruised the shoreline looking for wildlife. Canon 60D, f11, 1/160 sec, iso 400, -0.7 EV, 100-400 ISLii at 100 mm, C & C's welcomed.

Ed, what an unusual scene. I really love the colors and textures in this image, that moss is wonderful. The exposure and white balance look perfect, so nice processing on this one. I like having some water showing at the bottom of the composition, my only nit is that I wish there was a little more water showing on the right side of the scene. I know you shot this from a moving boat, so fine tuning a composition is almost impossible while shooting. you may also want to consider an alternate crop where you eliminate teh waterline completely, I think the color and texture in this scene are strong enough to carry that off.

You've got a good mix of spring colors and Spanish moss here, Ed.  The larger view is especially attractive.

This is a nice mix of foliage color and Spanish moss. My thoughts are the same as Ed's. I think I'd prefer more water, because as is it feels cut off. Since you were at the wide end of the lens, shooting from a bit farther away would have worked well.

This is a fun one, because it took a little while to get my head around what I was seeing. Real nice color and detail. It is working for me as presented, no suggestions here. Very nicely done.

Ed, I think this would make a fantastic sort of abstract shot if you cropped off the water on the left just to the bottom of the green leaves. Still excellent as is.

Nice color and textures, Ed. I like the contrast between the moss beards and the new green. You might consider a crop from the right to eliminate that dark area in the lower right corner.

You're a long way from CA, Ed, and it looks like you are having a good time!

Lots of wonderful textures and details to be had when opening the large version, Ed. My only suggestion would be to add a little canvas at the bottom so that the water did not appear to cropped off. Great job on this from a moving boat.
