Loggerhead Shrike

I've been pretty busy this last week and will be for the next few weeks, but I've managed to process some of the images from our trip to Malheur.  This Shrike was one of my favorite subjects, partly because I don't get a chance to shoot them very often and partly because it was so cooperative.  It stayed perched as our truck approached and allowed me some nice close shots, then moved to this sage clump a bit further away and gave me some shots with a bit more environment.  I had more space all around (particularly to the left), but I liked the comp I ended up with here.

7Dii, Sigma 150-600 C @ 562 mm, hand held resting my hand on the truck window, f/7.1, 1/5000, iso 1000, aperture priority, pattern metering, -2/3 EV.  Processed in LR & PS CC.  Cropped to 12.1 MP.  Taken at 10:05 am, April 20th at Hart Mountain National Wildlife Refuge, Oregon.

Your comments and critiques are always appreciated,

Thanks for taking a look,

A very nice environmental shot with a good alert pose Dennis, I like the almost black and white tones in this one.  devil

Nicely composed image with a solid environmental inclusion.  Malheur is a treasure.

These used to be found here fairly frequently, but I have seen none in the last few years. I like the starkness of the composition. It seems appropriate for the subject. Tough little bird.

I really light this monochromatic scene Dennis. An excellent habitat image very well composed.

I like the monotone color palette Dennis. It suits this species well. Nice work on a species which is not easy to get close to. Glad you found a cooperative one!
