Juan and Raplee

The San Juan River cuts thought the Raplee Anticline in southern Utah.  The curving river compliments the angular layers of the anticline and red sandstone.  When I photographed this spot years ago, I drove in on the riverside dirt road and hiked up the ridge a ways to gain a vantage. A few days ago, I came in from the highway above to enjoy the scene in late afternoon and sunset.  This was taken 15 minutes after sunset.

A lovely view, Doug.  The blue curves of the river set off the red ridges very well and the soft light lets all of the details show beautifully.

Doug, this looks like a great place to explore, and the trail is the only hint that others have enjoyed it as well. Given the cool palette it looks like overcast conditions rather than after sunset. I really like the mix of chaotic geology and how you framed it to maximize the bends in the river. Very nice indeed.

It does indeed look very inviting for some exploration. I love taking my Tacoma into places like this and cooking over a campfire. There aren't many such places in the US but Baja still has plenty. The composition is really nice with the S curve leading you into the distant mountains.

Nice color and leading line. The green makes a nice contrast and the image is very well composed.

Love the pastel colors and the mix of warm and cool, curving river pulls it all together, well done, and seen.

Very beautiful Doug and I love the complementary colours in soft light of red canyon and smokey blue green riverside trees.  Gorgeous.

Love this scene, Doug!  The textures, colors and patterns of the sandstone in contrast with the smooth blue water and the larger textures of the green trees really makes this a visual smorgasbord! Very nicely composed also with the river taking you all the back to the hills.  Very nice!
