These Great Blue Herons were nesting on an island in the St. Johns River in Florida the first week of March.  Canon 60D, f11, 1/1000 sec, iso 400, -0.7 EV, 100-400 ISLii at 300 mm, handheld from anchored boat.  Thanks for your thoughts and critique.

I like the poses and how you included the nest. Reminds of Venice Rookery.

I recognize the location, Ed.  You did a good job getting this pair isolated and capturing this bonding display.

Great moment captured very well, Ed.  I like that you included the nest, and some of their surroundings, as well as them having the nice partly cloudy sky for the background.

Very nice composition, Ed.  It's difficult to get such an uncluttered shot in a rookery.  I do wish the right hand bird had given you a bit of a head turn to put some light in the eye, but it's exponentially more difficult to get more than one bird to cooperate at a time.  I'd be more than happy with this one.  You might try cropping just to the left of the lone leafy branch and adding some canvas on top for a vertical image as an alternate composition.

Terrific behavioral image with good environment.  All the rookeries near me are high in the trees and I could never get an image like this.
