Pronghorn Portrait

I just returned from the Black Hills and Badlands regions of South Dakota.  Lighting was never ideal, but was able to snag a few reasonable shots. This male pronghorn was photographed from our car at Custer State Park. He was very close  and I leaned back to get all of him in the frame. K5 IIs, 300 mm f4 (1/30 sec at f9.0, Iso 640). Topaz In Focus to remove slight motion blur, Topaz Detail, Levels.................................Jim

Jim: very good result especially considering your shutter speed. I like the head on look and the soft light. I think an option would be to tone down the brightness of the background just a bit.Richard

Very nice, Jim.  I like the slight head tilt in towards you and to the left, showing off his horns a bit more.  How did you get him to do that for you?  enlightened  Nice shot.

This is a fine portrait, Jim. I've encountered these a few times but being so skittish they're long gone, even before I have a chance to frame them up. That software is something I should check out. I really like the image as framed, and especially the soft light. Good work!

Fine shot, especially with the circumstances.
The orientation seems a little odd, although I know the image is straight.
If mine, I might experiment with straightening the antlers and seeing if the body looks too out of kilter.
Nontheless, sweet image!

Nice detail at 1/30!.  I like your intimate composition, great eye contact.  F9 was a good choice.

Nicely done, Jim.  Custer State Park is a great place to have reasonably close encounters with pronghorn.  I am glad you had a fruitful trip!
