I found 3 eared grebes up at Sylvan Lake in Custer State Park, South Dakota.  Dense fog was present and I did way too much to get this image somewhat presentable.  Things that I like include high key presentation, composition, and focus is quite good.  I used levels and set white balance to get the lake surface as neutral as possible.  Noise suppression was attempted several times during the workflow, but stronger noise suppression will remove what's left of the details. This may make a smaller sized print, but the crop for composition left too few pixels for bigger prints. Let me know what you think and if you have any ideas on improving this image, I'm all ears.  Thank you for looking........................Jim

I like the high key approach.  Good job in getting both Grebes in focus.  Well composed.  I do see what looks like a little dust spot to the right of the leading grebes beak reflection.

Jim, nice job capturing them. I had never see one before so great to see. Yes, it was a hard situation in this high key situation.

I think you did well, considering the circumstances. Make the dust bunny go away and you will have done all you could.

Thank you for the comments.  Phil and David, I killed the dust bunny.  Thank you for serving as dust bunny beagles (LOL)..............Jim

This works nicely for web presentation, Jim.  The noise is evident in the larger version when looked at closely, though it disappears when I sit back in my chair.  The only nit I have is that there's a small darker blob just to the right of the reflected beak of the forward bird.  Once I noticed it, I couldn't get it out of my head.  (Oops-just noticed that Phil caught it).  A very nice image.

Beautiful shot Jim.  Yes, the noise is very evident but it gives it a rather artistic look and is not objectionable IMHO.  Very enjoyable.
