Gray featureless skies were present during our Badlands National Park visit. I used Hdr Efex Pro 2  and Merge for compiling 3 photos into a single image. I was able to pull out some clouds in this version using the Balanced option during HDR production. K5 IIs  18 mm (1/40 sec + 1/60 sec + 1/80 sec at f14, Iso 125), slight CW rotation, Levels, Brightness & Contrast...............Jim

Really tough subject in the light you had, Jim. I would have been tempted to get close to anything with texture, to give me a starting point for the eye's journey through the composition. You went to a lot of trouble with HDR here too, so it seems, but I believe you would have pulled more detail from this image using a black and white layer in Softlight mode at about 30 percent.

Hi Barry,
Thank you.  I'll try that technique on my next batch. ....................Jim

The overcast lets the subtle colors in the land show through well, Jim.  Being about to include some detail in the clouds is a fine addition.

Jim: Having been there a number of years ago this brings back good memories and depicts the area very well. For me the HDR work looks good and effective. 2 thumbs up.>=))>
